newspaper baskets
We are going to make these newspaper baskets. It should take four class periods to complete.
DAY 1 - Watch this video below and start collecting your supplies. In the assignment TEXT entry, tell me that you will be able to get supplies or explain what issues you might have and we can work around them. You will need:
1. PAPER - You can use newspaper, magazines, sales flyers, supermarket flyers, paper, paper bags, etc.
2. A long stick to roll against. This can be a knitting needle, a chop stick, a straw, a dowel. A pencil is a bit too short but if that is the only thing that you have, you can make it work
3. Some glue (preferred, or tape)

DAY 2 & 3 - Make the rolls. Don't worry about cutting the finished rolls to the right size at this point, just make the rolls. Below is a video of using both a longer stick (chopstick, shish-kabab stick, knitting needles, smoothie straw) and a smaller stick such as a pencil. If you are using a pencil, then cut the flat pieces of paper to a smaller size (about the size of a cell phone, see below). Either way, please watch the video first.
You will need to make a minimum of :
- 36 rolls for a square base
- 27 rolls for a triangle base
If you are making a hexagon, rumbus or another shape, figure at minimum the number of rolls to make your base shape X 9
